According to research by TUI Travel, British holidaymakers aren’t being deterred by the economic downturn. Instead of cancelling their travels altogether, people are looking further afield and outside of the Eurozone where their pound will stretch further.
TUI Travel, owners of Thomson and First Choice after last year’s merger, expects similar customer numbers to last year, before the financial unrest. Travellers are almost universally opting for package holidays, with all inclusive package holiday sales rising from last year as frugal holidaymakers try to cut down on spending money.
Turkey holidays and holidays to Egypt are proving extremely popular due to the pound’s current rate against the Euro, with people willing to travel further afield to save money.
Global Travel Group’s Andy Freeth said: “Since the turn of the year, our members have seen a huge increase in people going in to the shops and they are now booking up in strong numbers.”
