Ten years after the introduction of the single European currency, nearly half of the British population don’t know which countries are in the Eurozone, and which are not.
In a recent survey by the Post Office, out of 2000 British holidaymakers polled, nearly one third thought that Turkey were in the Euro, nearly half thought that Denmark were in the Euro, while three quarters are not aware that Slovakia is in the euro.
In the current economic climate, Andrew Spice of the Post Office Travel Services claims that it is important for customers to be aware of where in the world they can get the best value for their money.
The pound sterling is currently weak against the euro, meaning holidaymakers won’t get as much value as in non Euro countries such as Egypt and Turkey.
Out of 27 European Union (EU) countries, the following 16 countries all use the Euro; Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.
Outside the EU, Monaco, the Vatican City, San Marino, Andorra, Montenegro and Kosova use the Euro.
