Boeing 747 Sucks Baggage Container Into Engine

A Japan Airlines flight was recently grounded at LA International Airport when a large metal baggage container was sucked into one of its engines.

The incident happened as the plane was pushing back for take-off and the container was driven too close the aircraft, the vacuum created by the engine sucked up the metal container and wedged it into the outer left hand mechanism of the four-engined plane.

The first passengers and crew knew was when police pulled the aircraft over as it taxied for take off. All 18 crew members and 245 passengers had to be removed from the plane and taken back to the terminal building to wait for an alternative flight.

The damaged aircraft was taken to a nearby hangar to be examined by US federal aviation investigators. There were no reported injuries.
