Penguins at Kelly Tarlton’s Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World in New Zealand are being taught soccer skills in a bid to boost their physical, mental and emotional well being.
The Magpies (nickname for Newcastle United Football Club) could well face fierce opposition from the Penguins as their football skills are tested alongside Frisbee throwing, surfing, swing ball and waddle racing.
The event known as the Penguathlon will see visitors able to check out player profiles and decide which species of penguin to support.
Kelly Tarlaton’s is the only colony of sub-Antarctic penguins in New Zealand and offers an exciting and educational programme looking at the species and their environment.
