Information released on a government website in an effort to advise holidaymakers about financial support has received mixed reviews.
Jim Fitzpatrick, Minister for Transport, said the advice is aimed at clarifying the levels of protection available and ensuring people have the correct information on what to do if anything goes wrong.
However, Casia Zajac, head of communications at the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), while admitting the site is much needed, believes it merely highlights the confusion people face and urged the government to increase financial protection.
Association of Independent Tour Operators, Derek Moore welcomed the site saying holidaymakers needed somewhere that explained how their holidays are protected, concluding that “this could only be a good move.”
The information on the website at direct.gov.uk/holidayprotection also contains advice on what to do if your travel firm folds whilst you are abroad and how to claim your money back.
