Budget airline EasyJet has angered its Pilots over plans to cancel their free coffee and tea while working.
Crews have now been told to bring in their own coffee, teabags and milk for in-flight drinks although the firm have said they can have free hot water.
Another infuriating cutback for the 500 pilots is that from now they will only get one hot meal instead of two on a flight of up to ten hours.
Crews where incensed and unions rejected the plans. One employee said “They should rename the airline Meany Jet. It’s not a lot to expect meals; we spend hours in the air and have to be at airports really very early”. “Do you really expect us to bring sandwiches and teabags? The offer of free hot water is down right insulting”.
Steve Turner union boss for Unite, called the plans “penny pinching”.
The airline was quoted as saying ‘we have been in discussions with staff on improving crew efficiency and reduction of costs’.
The measures drawn up by airline bosses are to counter falling sales, last November EasyJet reported a 35% drop in annual profits to £123 million, and passenger numbers have dropped by 7,600 a day.
EasyJet said “cut backs were needed because of the challenging economic climate”.
