Paris Welcomes Bed And Breakfast Tourists

Paris Council is hoping to persuade residents to open up their spare rooms for visitors to the city, in a bid to boost tourism.

It’s all part of a campaign to change people’s perception of the French capital from being not just luxurious, romantic and expensive, but cheap, cheerful and friendly.

The idea is to attract visitors who may be put off visiting the city by highly priced accommodation and ‘frosty’ locals, by promoting a more friendly personal service with homeowners offering informative tips and helpful advice to guests.

Accommodation must pass certain criteria set by the council which includes providing a bed no less than 140cm by 190cm, a bathroom in perfect condition and cleanliness, and breakfast “served with care.”

So far only 600 of an estimated 1000 people have taken the council up on the idea, perhaps persuaded by the extra income and a 71% tax allowance.
