35 disabled people have attempted to gain entry into the Guinness World Records by pulling a Boeing 757 aeroplane.
The British Disabled Flying Association (BDFA) arranged the attempt at Lasham Airfield in Hampshire to raise money for their charity, where despite the wind and rain, all 35 members using manual wheelchairs, pulled the DHL cargo airliner a staggering distance of over 100m.
BDFA chief executive, Mike Miller-Smith was amazed at the achievement of its members who all pulled an equivalent of 1.8 tonnes each.
The charity which provides free or subsidised trial flying lessons for disabled and terminally ill people will find out in 2 weeks if it has been accepted into the new category for world records.
A volunteer pilot landed the DHL plane at the airfield where the incredible feat took place. Managing director of DHL Air, Paul Bishop was pleased to have been able to help stating “The sight of a 65 tonne DHL cargo plane being towed down a runway by the BDFA plane-pulling team was very impressive.”
