Student Pilots Fly The Paper Flag For Britain

More than 37,000 students from 85 countries folded sheets of A4 paper in a bid to become ‘champion paper pilot’ in an Austrian competition.

Nick Goodwin and George Miller were two of the students who represented the UK in the Red Bull Paper Wings Championships in Salzburg.

Goodwin declared he “only entered for a laugh” but had the most amazing weekend at the event held in Red Bull’s private aircraft space Hangar-7.

Miller was just minding his own business during a break at Exeter University when he was asked if he would like to throw a paper plane for a chance to win a trip to Austria.

Both students said they met some amazing people from all over the world but were eventually beaten by Japan’s Takeshige Kishiua, who perhaps took the competition a little more seriously having spent the last 8 years training for it.
