The classic deck chair is making a comeback as thousands of Brits choose to holiday at home due to the recession.
Leading DIY retailer, B&Q, has reported a 50% increase in sales on 2008 figures for the wooden and canvas seats.
The sales rush is thought to have come about as more and more Britons are spending their money on their gardens as they cannot afford to holiday abroad.
“Deck chairs are back” stated Kelly Merry, outdoor furniture buyer for B&Q, adding “Holidays at home are already in full swing. We can see that in surging sales on anything for the garden or outside relaxation and enjoyment.”
The increase in sales follows a drop in international flight bookings leaving Britain and a rise in bookings for UK breaks.
