Travel agents are using the sweet smells of summer in a bid to boost sales during a recession hit holiday season.
Exotic aromas will be drifting through shops in an attempt to put customers in the holiday mood, and hopefully a buying frame of mind.
Orange groves, freshly cut grass and sea breeze scents are all being used to remind people of their favourite holidays, Thomsons favour coconut oil, while First Choice are considering vanilla ice cream in an effort to boost sales of family holidays.
Doug Glenwright, marketing manager at Thomsons stated “When customers come into a scented shop they say it’s like walking into a holiday. It helps them relax and encourages them to stay longer, so it helps sales.”
